Welcome, Class of 2011!
The History and Art History section of Sophomore Humanities is all about helping you make sense of the world you've inherited. We pick up chronologically where the freshman Humanities course ends, moving steadily forward from the late Middle Ages up to the mid-twentieth century. As you read the literature of the periods we study in Ms. Breckenridge's and Ms. Skinner's classes, we will learn the history by examining other cultural products, such as law codes, city layouts, fairy tales, letters, and pieces of art and music. Instead of focusing on memorization of names, dates, and places, you will develop sophisticated skills of historical, textual, and artistic analysis that will help you to pursue your own education for the rest of your lives.
